Telehealth is the use of information and communication technologies to transfer healthcare information for the delivery of clinical, administrative and educational services.

Telecare is the use of information and communication technologies to transfer medical information for the delivery of clinical services to patients to their homes.

Types of Telemedicine

Teleconsultation — to support clinical decision making. This can take place between two or more physicians and a patient. A patient and his or her healthcare professional communicate via videoconferencing in real time to generate interactive feedback that acts upon information as it is received. Used to diagnose a condition or to monitor the progress of treatment.

Teleeducation — Applications range from tele-consultations involving mainly consultant interaction, through training in rural areas to virtual conferences and continuing medical education. While continuing medical education can be experienced by taking a formal course, healthcare workers can update and extend their knowledge on a personal basis without leaving their home or office.
